How We Score Suspicious Timing

Under the STOCK Act, members of Congress must disclose their stock trades. We cross-reference every reported trade with every congressional vote to identify cases where a member traded a stock close in time to voting on legislation that could affect that stock's value.

Each correlation receives a score from 1 to 10 based on factors including: how many days separated the trade from the vote, whether the trade direction (buy/sell) aligns with the vote outcome, and whether the bill directly relates to the traded company's industry.

A high score does not prove insider trading. It identifies patterns worth investigating. Correlation is not accusation. Explore the data and draw your own conclusions. See also: raw stock trades.
